Our major goal for the upcoming funding period will be establishment of sustainable operational model, that will allow to upgrade and scale up existing projects, diversify and expand funding, and involve wider wiki community in innovation and design of new programs, tools and projects supporting qualitative and quantitative expansion of wiki movement.

In the upcoming funding period WMAM will establish effective collaboration with the Ministry of Education to appreciate contribution of active wiki teachers, professors and students to free knowledge and develop culture of co-creation to improve nationwide educational resources.

WMAM will redesign the content of our flagship projects, WikiCamps and WikiClubs to introduce contribution to Wiki content in light of personal and professional development and will brand and promote both projects to attract paid participants, thus increasing the number of wiki-contributors with limited resources.

In the area of community expansion WMAM is determined to move from event based interaction to lasting and valuable relationship building with all community members and their effective inclusion in decision making, research and promotion of wiki movement.

For the development and expansion of Western Armenian contributors and content, WMAM will strive to separate WMAM as a separate Wikimedia projectlanguage and will integrate WMAM projects with existing Armenian Diaspora community building and exchanging activities.

Armenia is a small country where everyone knows everyone and a country accounting for 1.5 percent of former Soviet Union population that produced more than 30 percent of all military and industrial innovation of the USSR. This gives us strong belief in becoming an exceptional experimental lab for Wikimedia Movement through our active exchange and collaboration with WMF and all the chapters worldwide.

Taking wiki deep into education

WMAM will sign Memorandum of Collaboration that will give us an opportunity to involve Wikimedia trainings and workshops in the list of professional development opportunities and lay ground for official use statistics of contributing teachers for making teacher retention and appraisal decisions.

At least 1 edit-a-thon organized at major Armenian university with the Ministry of Education support and official representation

WMAM will make a presentation to show the Ministry the breadth and depth of WikiPlatforms and Statistics that can serve as an unquestioned evidence for each contributing teacher’s performance and progress. In addition WMAM will organize wiki training for ministry staff and hold joint discussions on how to make editing in Wikimedia projects popular among ministry employees.

By September 2017 WMAM will upgrade its teacher Wikiweek training program to include also pedagogical topics that will help teachers to capture the core value of wiki tools and platforms for use in teaching and learning.

WMAM will develop and deliver new modules on identifying and reshaping course learning and student learning objectives, design of lesson plans and learning activities accounting for usage and contribution to wiki content, feedback and research based projects.

In November-December 2017 WMAM will design online trainings on how to streamline entire process of getting acquainted with wiki environment, as well as, small modules on how to write good articles for Wikipedia, using trustworthy sources.

WMAM, with the support of the Ministry of Education will widely promote and organize edit-a-thons at the biggest universities of Armenia

WMAM will establish WikiClub at one of the major universities that will teach editing in Wiki platforms and will negotiate with 3 universities and support active Wikipedians to develop and deliver an elective course on editing wiki content.

Sustain Wikicamps with renewed content

WMAM will organize at least 4 WikiCamps(2 in the summer of 2017 and 2 in the winter of 2017-18)

WMAM will redesign and reposition WikiCamps as a great opportunity for summer and winter activity, which can greatly enrich the participants knowledge and teach skills and introduce habits of successful student or professional to attract up to 30 percent of paid participants.

The redesigned WikiCamp program will add new quests for participants that will require better understanding of Wikimedia projects and their role in building civic society, free knowledge and personal and professional development.

WMAM will launch separate website for WikiCamps and will use all the many forms of digital and social marketing to promote both unpaid and paid WikiCamps, so that every kid and parent know the best way to enroll with one of the WikiCamps.

Establish Wikiclubs within reach of every kid

Open 10 new WikiClubs, increasing total number of WikiClubs to 20 by the end of current APG period.

Designing and implement a development program for WikiClubs and professional development program for coordinators to empower them to bring more people through various events, interesting discussions with guests visiting WikiClubs and making them a unique place for exchange with ideas and projects on development of their local residencies.

Design a series of weekly inspirational and educational videos, translations of existing talks, to strengthen kids belief in their capacity and power to build their own success. Introduce workshops and trainings on building habits and attitudes for success and will demonstrate how contribution to free knowledge can benefit everyone for their future and current careers.

Design and implement a study on the impact of WikiClubs on general performance of students attending WikiClubs in various regions that will also greatly support our further expansion and fundraising campaign (an initiative to be implemented with Armenian General Benevolent Union)

WMAM will organize at least one event for WikiClub sponsors to discuss growth opportunities and community building

WMAM will introduce new membership fee towards each WikiClub that will allow WMAM to hire staff members who will coordinate the work of WikiClubs, design and implement the development of WikiClubs as unique educational hubs in each residential community and will work closely with WikiClub coordinators on their professional development.

Engage and grow community through meaningful participation

Design communication and relationship development and deepening strategies with each group or community

Diversify wikiprojects and their content to reach previously untapped audiences of potential wikipedians

On Wikipedia Day 2018 have 100 participants at WMAM organized event and 200 at WikiClubs

Organize community events around displaying and later sinking the biggest Wikipedia concrete logo attracting at least 100 Wikipedians

In May 2018, Organize grand celebration of the 5th anniversary of Wikimedia Armenia, with competitions and workshops, attracting at least 200 Wikipedians

WMAM will continue Saturday workshops with at least 30 participants in Saturday workshops at WMAM Yerevan Club and will organize at least 3 event (masterclass, workshop, brainstorming, team-building) with professionals and activists famous in particular domains

WMAM will organize at least 5 different workshops in different educational and scientific institutions.

Organize 12 edit-a-thons for WLS participants and 2 fully sponsored edit-a-thons to increase literacy in particular areas

Establish specialised committees of Wikimedia members, with charges developed for each community and annual plan of activities approved

We will design and implement at least 1 focus group studiy on member attitudes toward the Wiki movement with participation of at least 60 respondents

WMAM will organize 2 discussions held with WMAM members on the strategy and annual plan by March 1, 2018

In September 2017 WMAM will organize Wiki Loves Science with at least 150 participants contributing Wikimedia commons

WMAM will Design new website and share the code on CC license with the rest of the WM affiliates

In May 2018 WMAM will organize a grand celebration of the establishment of Wikimedia Armenia as WMF chapter and will organize hackathons, edit-a-thons, workshops and public events to spread the culture of Wiki.

We will increase frequency of meeting to once in two months with WMAM members through clear communications and establishment of interesting opportunities to contribute to Wiki movement in Armenia.

Establish Western Armenian as distinct wiki language

Will initiate process on the establishment of Western Armenian as a separate Wikipedia language. We believe that separating Western Armenian language as a distinct Wikipedia language will foster development of free knowledge in Western Armenian that will be widely used by school students and their parents in diaspora communities to teach both language and some other subjects in Western Armenian.

Wikimedia projects and separate Western and Eastern (general) Armenian content

WMAM with sponsorship of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation will organize Western Armeneian WikiCamp in France in August 2017 with 54 participants

WMAM will open at least 1 Western Armenian WikiClub

In July-August 2017 WMAM will work closely with AGBU and other organizations supporting Diaspora relations and will jointly organize a Camp that will integrate activities of WikiCamp activities

Increase and diversify funding sources

By September 30, 2017 WMAM will package 5 fundraising products either for general purpose funding or funding specific WMAM projects that pursue common goals and objectives with funding organization

WMAM will also design new website capability and other media allowing for dissemination of the clear messages about our various activities and allowing for easy and diverse ways to donate or support specific projects. The new website compete for the attention and persuasiveness of commercial websites that easily engage users and push them towards desired actions. WMAM website will host information on the organization and it’s projects, along with sister websites promoting WMAM flagship WikiCamp and WikiClubs projects with integrated capability for registration and donation tools.

In may 2018 WMAM will organize fundraising event around Wikimedia Armenia 5th anniversary celebration events

Exposing value of publicly available content to the development of GLAM institutions

WMAM will establish new forms of collaboration with 3 GLAM institutions, through research and deeper understanding of the current ecosystem and limitations that GLAM institutions face with respect to putting their content on digital and public domains. WMAM will also revisit it’s communication practices to demonstrate to GLAM institutions all the benefits and opportunities for increasing number of visitors, through making the information on artifacts and scientific educational content public.

WMAM will sign a memorandum of collaboration with the Ministry of Culture that oversees the state funded GLAM institutions to get government support and officially grounded (through Memorandum of Collaboration) support for WMAM activities.

WMAM will introduce opportunity for 2 people to participate in GLAM coordinators conference as an incentive for broader and deeper collaboration

Turn digitization into fun and enriching experience

Introduce a web page and online form, where volunteers can mention their availability for the work, their interest in listening to particular audio content.

WMAM will also continue its Spoken Wikipedia project - recording good, most viewed and important articles.

Introduce new format for volunteering to make digitization enjoyable process through forming small teams of volunteers to scan, and adding some audio content that our volunteers can listen, adding an aftermath discussion of a podcast, a book or any other audio content useful for personal and professional development.

Hold several meetings with students studying language arts, journalism and communications to promote edition of Armenian Wikisource and proofreading of books.

Hack the expansion of wiki movement with wiki-hackathon

WMAM will hold a Wiki hackathon on the problems of public literacy, contribution to free knowledge, establishment and promotion of digital presence and attracting valuable human talent around volunteering activities and fundraising. The overall objective and the major theme for the hackathon will be attracting new contributors and increasing quantity and quality of content on various Wikimedia projects.

Become hub for knowledge and innovation exchange

Armenian Wiki will continue participation in:

  • Europeana 1914-18 project which is a project dedicated to the theme of 1914-18. At the end of the project (July 31, 2017) Wikimedia chapters will represent their portfolios of activities to Europeana.
  • Wikimedia CEE Spring is an annual article writing contest created by CEE community which is aimed at enriching Wikiprojects with content related to CEE countries. The best contributors will receive books as presents during Wikipedia Day celebration event.
  • WMAM will reach out to other countries in the region and in addition to Georgia and Lebanon WMAM will expand geography of Wikipedians involvement in WMAM projects to include Iran and Turkey opening up new connections and areas that wikipedians want to cover through their contribution to wiki content.
  • In current funding period WMAM will organize article writing contest in collaboration with Wikimedia Austria, which will encourage participants to create and improve content related to our countries and will host the winner for a 5 day country tour.

In accordance with reached agreements WMAM will participate in following contests:

  • Wikimedia Spain chapter to organize a theme specific contest (theme to be decided later next month),
  • Wikimedia Norge to organize a contest aim at decreasing gender gap presented on Armenian and Norwegian Wikipedias. Two communities will edit articles about famous Armenian and Norwegian women

WMAM will organize discussions with international organizations implementing development programs particularly in the areas of education, development of civil society, general and media literacy, environmental literacy, etc.

WMAM staff and Armenian Wikimedia movement members will participate in the following international events:

  • Wikimania 2017
  • WM CON 2018
  • WM CEE meeting

WMAM will establish process for developing and sharing knowledge that our staff members and wiki community members gain through participation in various international conferences, meetings and workshops, to make it available and well documented for future use by any interested party.

We will design our own research projects and will invite other chapters to contribute and will greatly participate in the research of other chapters or WMF.
