Wikimedia Strategy for Armenia 2023-2026 is based on the best practices of 2017-2020 which tend to expand the opportunities for education, the dissemination of free knowledge and enlargement of the scope of Wikimedia movement. As well as, this strategy is influenced by the lessons learned from the issues we faced previously and is aimed at avoiding and preventing those in the future.

Strategic Goals

Wikimedia Armenia is committed to deliver free and up-to-date knowledge in order to meet quality content needs of every member of society regardless of their scope of interest, educational, social and economic background, through education, popularization and easy access to and meaningful activities over wikimedia platforms. We leverage our unique ability to design and develop educational programs, inspirational projects and networking opportunities, to allow every reader and contributor to follow their passion, reach their full potential, increase confidence and impact on the area of their interest and demonstrate their professional and human qualities and develop democratic values.

Through its projects and ideology, Wikimedia Armenia strives to change mindset in all possible domains and to nurture and educate new generation that will appreciate and live by the values of wiki movement and developed democratic societies. These values will include and are not limited to:

Strategic Goal 1: To bring wiki-projects and tools used for education, teaching and learning to all regions of Armenia: to schools, organizations and every individual

• Promote nationwide education on a variety of teaching and learning opportunities with Wikipedia and other Wikimedia tools and projects, through collaboration and involvement of teachers, school and university students
• To promote involvement of active Wikipedians in design and delivery of special Wikipedia practicum in order to make Wikimedia projects a part of university curriculum
• Design trainings, tools, processes and services and other systemic interventions that will both
  • support simple and trouble free inception and development of newcomers
  • allow to scale-up supporting and guiding activities with minimum feasible resources
• Design and implement pilot projects in several Universities to attract professors to use Wikimedia projects and tools for teaching and research

Strategic Goal 2: Increase number of actively involved and contributing members and volunteers of Wikimedia Armenia

• Engage the members of Wikimedia Armenia and the members of wiki community in the activities of the organization as an organizer of different projects
• Diversify ways of involvement in Wikimedia Armenia projects and programs by supporting networking and organization of the representatives of wiki community, volunteers into contextual groups that can participate in Wikimedia Armenian projects and initiate their own projects that support their work and causes of interest
• To expand the scope of the Wikimedia movement by collaborating with different professional groups
• To acknowledge and promote most active contributors to Wiki-projects and campaigns through conventional and social media and organization of cultural, educational and scientific events  

Strategic Goal 3: Develop new ideas and projects to sustain and expand wiki movement in Armenia

• Wikimedia Armenia will promote wiki collaboration and community development with professional communities such as architecture and construction, healthcare, environmental protection, rural development, legal and legislative reforms - through domain specific events, workshops and competitions
• Find new ways for collaborating with scientific communities and non-government organizations and responsible participation in advocacy, increased literacy and stakeholder education
• Promote Wikipedia among scientific organizations with the aim to involve more members of scientific expert groups in editing and improving wiki articles.
• Increase and sustain effectiveness of WikiCamps through positioning and promotion of WikiCamps as a great experience for learning and networking with other curious and talented kids (also define and promote qualities and skills the participants get that will greatly support their study, and future careers, along with enriching their resumes)
• Enlargement of the network of Wikiclubs in all settlement of Armenia; uniting wiki editors in these educational centers
• Constantly evaluate and reshape our projects and events to always adapt to new contexts and situations

Strategic Goal 4: Promote knowledge and innovation exchange through collaboration, joint projects and representation

• Establish new collaborative relationships with other Wikimedia chapters and user groups in the CEE and other regions to enrich and expand multilingual content, exchange on effective projects and contribute to the development of wiki tools and projects
• Promote and support with expansion and diversification of regional collaboration through participation in mutual projects and events and development of innovative solutions for growing and excelling wiki movement
• Sharing our best practices and experience with other Wikimedia communities in the world
• Always support other Wikimedia organizations in implementing our projects and localizing them for their community
• Collaboration with international organizations with mission perfectly aligned with Wikimedia Foundation mission and goals, interested in promoting information literacy and civil society development in various domains and regions
• Design, implement and participate in research addressing common issues and perspectives on expanding of wiki-movement in a variety of projects and regions

Strategic Goal 5: Risk assessment and overcoming

• Forecasting and risk assessment during pandemics, political instability, etc.; development of new mechanisms in collaboration with the wiki community and implementation in order to overcome the problems
• Extra focus on possible internal issues by providing more communication among different organizational units - the Board, members, wiki community and the staff
• Diversification of financial sources
• Providing safe, friendly, and inclusive environment during various events and gatherings
